Harp
The
harp dates back to 4000 BC when the Egyptians
used them in holy places. Christian artists often draw
angels playing harps in Heaven. Harp as a symbol of music
is associated with King David of the Old Testament. St.
Augustine said that a 10 string harp symbolizes the ten
Commandments.
A
most popular musical instrument used in both medieval Scotland
and Ireland, it has been the emblem of Ireland since the
13th century.
On
medallion, the harp is surrounded by the musical score
from
"Greensleeves."
